Chapter 6

"I need answers," Max says to himself after a night of restlessness, "but how can I find them? There's a lot more at stake than I realize, and I don't know how I'm going to get into the corporation to get the information I want. I'm going to need help."

"You say you need help?" The voice startles Max, and almost by instinct he turns invisible again. "Do you need help?" the voice repeats. Max takes a look around, but doesn't see anyone. "It must be coming from another room, and probably can't see me," Max says quietly to himself. "That's the only reason I can think of at the moment that explains why this person wasn't startled by my sudden disappearance."

"I heard you say you needed help," the voice says again. "What kind of help? I may be of some assistance. Where are you?" The voice sounds like it's in the next room.

"Not so fast," Max replies. "I don't know if I can trust anyone right now. Why would you want to help me anyway?"

"Well, you're wise in deciding not to trust anyone. There are so many agents of the corporation running around, you never know when you'll run into a spy. Yes, I know why you need help. I've been here all night myself, and I've listened to you talk to yourself. That wasn't quite so wise on your part. If I had been a spy, I could have had hundreds of men here to take you in before the night was over. But I'm simply someone who wants to help. Do you want it?"

"I don't know," Max says, almost to himself. "Come here and let me see you." Max turns visible again, just in time. The person behind the voice has just entered the room.
