Redler's men are stunned. They had their target surrounded, with no hope of escape. How did he vanish like that? They start to spread out and search the area. Surely he couldn't have gone very far.
To Max's surprise, the men have left, with one shouting out orders to canvas the area and find the target. A small sense of relief comes over him as he looks down.
Max is then even more terrified at what he sees. Nothing! Where his feet should have been there is now just empty space. He looks at his hands, and they're gone, too. "What happened? All I did was think about being invisible, and I am!" he almost shouts, but he stops himself short of that. Most of those men may have left, but a few are still lurking around somewhere. Putting aside his initial thoughts, he decides to just go with the flow and find a place to hide and think.
He quickly finds a condemned building which proves to be sufficient for the moment. He now tries to think through what has happened. It seems that something more has happened to Max than he realized. The Endline seems to have had an effect on him. As Max stares at the empty space where his hands should be, he wishes he could just be visible again. At that exact moment, he sees his hands and almost has a heart attack! He's visible again, and with just a thought.
Max starts to wonder how he's able to do that, and he begins to experiment. Invisible, visible. Just the mere thought of those words produces the desired effect, and Max begins to understand a little of what is going on.
"I seem to have gained some power, what that is I don't know. It's obvious I can control with my mind the ability to be invisible. I wonder if that is the extent of my power. Wait, what if it isn't. What if I had the power all along and it just never manifested itself. That means the Endline...." His voice trails as his thoughts turn inward. Answers that create more questions flood his mind.
