What is so special about a 4-leaf clover? What is it that makes finding one so great? The only difference a 4-leaf clover has with regular, ordinary clover is an extra leaf. Yet that one leaf, that little extra, is enough to set that clover apart from all the others.
Now, if a little extra something can make a clover stand out, how much more can we stand out with something greater and more special than just a leaf. I'm talking about the Holy Spirit, God's spirit that lives inside us when we allow God to take control of our lives and rescue us from our sinful ways. It sets us apart from the rest of the world, giving us a direction for our lives that we would never have planned on.
The thing is, a 4-leaf clover can stand out, yet it is still with the other clover, and they can blend in well. That makes them hard to spot at first glance. It takes more careful examination to pick one out. That's the way the world sees Christians. At first glance, we're just like anyone else. Digging a little deeper, the world will see, hopefully, a little something extra, something that stands out. Maybe they would like to have that something, just like someone finding a 4-leaf clover would want to pick it.
Are we standing out enough, letting the Holy Spirit guide us, so people can see that something extra they need themselves? Let's not be hidden among the crowds, but instead be accessible, ready to show someone who doesn't have it how they can have that extra something.
"By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from
thistles? Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree
cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good
fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them."
Matthew 7:16-20
Let's display that extra leaf. Bear good fruit. Let God take control. People will notice.
